Tips on Handling the Wedding Gift Table

By Amy Spade When youre planning a wedding, you dont want to forget the gift table. Not only will this be covered with your presents and money gifts, but it will also be out in the open. And although you dont want to think that anything could happen, you might want to put a few precautions in place. Better to be safe The gift table is best kept safe by being out in the open, where everyone can see it. You might want the deejay next to it, or at least nearby, because people will be going up that way all evening. However, you also want to keep the gift table somewhere where your guests can find it to deposit their gifts or cards. A nice slit top box works well for cards (maybe you could put a locked tin inside so that no one can peek except you) and a card table with a table cloth is fine for the wrapped gifts. You may also want to have the guest registry next to the gift table so that you have an idea of how many presents should be there when you finally get to opening them. If there seems to be a discrepancy, then you will be able to find out if something was lost or stolen. What to do with the gifts at the end of the night You will need to have a plan or someone in place to take care of the gifts once the reception is over. You may want to enlist one of the members of your bridal party to load them into their car and drive them to the hotel, or perhaps, a parent can take them in order to have a brunch the next morningwhere you open the gifts for everyone. Either way, you will want to store them somewhere safe. Its generally not a good idea to leave them in a car overnight. First of all, a car is easily broken into and two, you dont know if the gifts are sensitive to temperature changes. You dont want to ruin anything. The gift table is just another detail that you want to be aware of. Most of the time, there are no problems with people upsetting the gifts or raiding the envelopes, but if it makes you feel better to have a back up plan in place, go right ahead. Manchester Popchester!

By Susan Ashby Manchesters long and distinguished roster of world-famous pop music stars and superstars has been a great source of pride among local Mancunians, especially since it gives some indication of the prominent role that the citys musical heritage plays in the world music scene. As early as the sixties and seventies, Manchester boasted several popular groups like The Hollies, The Bee Gees and 10cc. In addition, the BBC recorded the popular TV show Top of the Pops in the city, which was another reason to be proud of the local music scene. Several original members of The Hollies, founded in the early sixties, were raised in Manchester and nearby communities. Often called the British Everly Brothers, The Hollies rich harmonies rivalled those of the Beach Boys. Of course, the trio known as the Bee Gees is one of the most successful musical acts of all time, with total sales of over 180 million albums. By now, everyone knows that the Bee Gees were the Brothers Gibb: Barry, Maurice and Robin. 10cc achieved the pinnacle of their commercial success in the seventies before splitting up in 1976. Historically, however, the big moment in Manchesters music history came on June 4, 1976 when the Sex Pistols arrived in Castlefield to play their legendary gig at the Lesser Free Trade Hall. While it is true that the audience at that gig numbered less than 42 people, several key figures who would be instrumental in shaping Manchesters future music scene were present. These included Tony Wilson (founder of Factory Records), Bernard Sumner (of Joy Division and New Order), Mick Hucknall (Simply Red), Ian Curtis, Peter Hook and producer Martin Hannett (who would later from The Smiths with Johnny Marr). Shortly following the gig, Wilson founded Factory Records and promptly signed Joy Division. Factory Records soon made a splash with signature Manchester musicians who played their own distinct sound. The record label created its own unique image as well, combining images of the industrial north with Andy Warhol-inspired pop art glamour. This formed a rather incongruous image that nonetheless caught on. With bands like A Certain Ratio and The Durutti Column at the forefront, Factory Records became identified with a certain sound. However, the coup de grace was fashioned by Joy Division, which critics said successfully captured and grimly defined what it meant to be a Mancunian at the close of the seventies. It was also at this time when The Fall, led by Mark E. Smith, began their groundbreaking run of producing unique, innovative and prolific hits that spanned the next three decades. Following the footsteps of Joy Division, New Order embarked on their own odyssey that combined pop, rock and dance music and parlayed this into worldwide commercial success and millions of record sales. Soon after, the musical act that would become the definitive Manchester group of the eighties hit the ground running. The Smiths, led by Morrissey and Marr, created such iconic Manchester songs as Rusholme Ruffians and Suffer Little Children. Music critics noted that Morriseys lyrics were as explicitly about Manchester as the works of another great artist, the painter L.S. Lowry. A point of clarification here, though. The famous American anti-war hippie musical from the late sixties, Hair, includes a song entitled “Manchester, England.” However, the mention of the city in the song’s title is somewhat irrelevant and serves mainly as punctuation in the song’s lyrics. With the dawn of the nineties, the Manchester music scene again metamorphosed, some say the new energy was propelled by the drug ecstasy. The Hacienda night club, which was owned by Factory Records, became the new music hub and created the so-called Madchester Scene, fuelled by the music of Happy Mondays, The Inspiral Carpets and The Stone Roses. The 2002 movie 24 Hour Party People by Michael Winterbottom aptly captured this period in Manchesters music history. After Madchester, much of the music scenes energy died down but lots of local music groups still made their presence felt, such as Oasis, James, Take That, M People, 808 State, Elbow, Doves, Mr. Scruff, Drawn Boy and Michael McGoldrick. Of this group, Oasis emerged as the most popular act, with their Dont Believe The Truth tour playing to over 1.7 million people around the world in 2005 and early 2006. It should be noted that The Fall continues to receive critical acclaim. Today, with popular music venues such as the Manchester Evening News Arena, the Manchester Apollo and the Manchester Academy as well as over 30 smaller venues with their own musical acts, it will only be a matter of time until the next great Manchester musical act hits the scene. Incidentally, the Manchester Evening News Arena, which is next to Manchester Victoria railway station, was recently voted as International Arena of the Year, edging out New York Citys famed Madison Square Garden. The News Arena has a seating capacity of 21,000 and is the largest arena of its type in Europe. Article by Susan Ashby of Manchester Singles. The Healing Arts: A Firetender’s Lesson, Part Two - Of One Mind and One Heart

By Russ Reina On the second day of my Inipis, I began pitching in to help with the fire for the ceremony. I worked with a man named Richard, who I just assumed to be Native American. He was certainly weathered and dark enough. He grunted a lot and gave me little by way of direction. Before we started he told me that in the old ways, a boy desiring to become a major part of the sacred ceremonies would first have to tend fire for seven years for the people. In silence. Anything he learned would be picked up by observation. And then he shut up, and told me to, too. And that is, for the most part, how I was taught, by careful observation and mimicking all the things that Richard did until I got a sense of not only the nuts and bolts of firetending, but the relationship with fire and ceremony and Spirit that he embodied. It wasn’t until a week later that I learned that Richard, in fact, was a fifty-year-old Jew from Brooklyn who had been setting Altar for the Chips for the last year on their road trips. After my fourth Inipi, I asked for permission to move onto the property of the sponsor to help wherever I could. Given the okay, I dropped everything and did so. Slowly, I got to know the family a little better and after a couple of weeks of tending fire, was invited into the Yuwipi Ceremonies. There was a ceremony each night for the next two weeks, beginning with an Inipi at dusk and then ending with a “feast” at around midnight after the ceremony. Spirit literally, physically touched people. People were transformed. People were told that they should prepare for death. People were told that they had to change their lives. People were instructed where to find specific herbs, and how they were to be prepared and taken to effect healing. My experience was that Godfrey, bound tight and completely in a blanket and laid down on a bed of sage in the pitch blackness at the beginning of the ceremony, did not do the telling, touching, or instructing. There were other things there that did the work. He just called them in. Amidst the cacophony of dashing lights in the dark, voices from nowhere in the silence, and the circles of sometimes desperate prayer focused on the greatest good, some people were healed. Some were given blessings and left to go on with their deaths. Not that they were passed by, but because it became both painfully and ecstatically evident to themselves that they didn’t want to live anymore. To a one, though, each of the people involved had nowhere else to go but to these ceremonies, as “Western” medicine had exhausted all of its options with them. Naturally. After all, they were seeing a Medicine Man! Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, Immune Disorders including AIDS, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome were all dealt with, and each outcome was different. I have personally known people who, given up for lost with the above mentioned afflictions, were renewed at least to the point of defying their death sentences (and Ouch! the numbers of people that were so advised by the best of medical “professionals” was incredible!) No one left those ceremonies without being deeply affected. Some people left in terror. Let’s face it, when was the last time you went to see a doctor and were thrust into a light-tight room filled with a cacaphony of guterral and ancient sounds driven by drumbeat, and then found yourself touched by what could only be called little hands? Some people, as long as they understood that it was not the disease they were changing, but their lives, left whole. What I grasped was that in the ancient ways it was found that if things were done in a certain way, certain things would happen. Over years and years–perhaps millennia–of trial and error, visions and personal instructions by Spirit and Nature, it was found that the right combination of preparation, songs, intent, and action would beckon Spirit to appear, advise, and affect; time could be dissolved and the miraculous would be attainable. There are also Spirit allies called Tunkasilas (Tunka-shilas; Grandfathers), some of whom take physical form as what many cultures identify as “little people” who “doctor” the individuals. The Yuwipi calls them in to do what the Creator asks of them to do; heal. What I witnessed was four individuals, Unci (Grandmother), Charles, Phillip (who, a paraplegic from a car accident, sat in a wheelchair), and Godfrey, the Yuwipi Man, working the space of the ceremony room, speaking to each other, sometimes in Lakota, sometimes in English, cobbling together different parts of the ceremony during their preparations, sometimes instructing, “no, NO the rattle goes over THERE,” “spread the sand from Wahinheya (the Mole) from right to left, not left to right,” “that song goes like This,” all in precise detail with no guidebook or directions to follow but the memory of the way things had been taught them by their ancestors. And all throughout, what became more and more evident to me was that there was a consistency of intent amongst them, an approach that transmuted into the feeling that, indeed, they became, through the process of preparation and delivery, of one mind, one heart–all in service to the spirit of the individual needing help. This was the gift that they passed on to me by their example, and I embraced it. But there was more: what I was a part of with them felt so very, very from a completely, and ancient, way of being. At first this was just a feeling, but as time unfolded, I learned just how it was grounded in fact. Next: A living legacy. Cash Advances

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mansi_Aggarwal]Mansi Aggarwal Money makes the Mare go this well known fact is nicely understood by the banks and other organizations prior to offering cash advances. Since none of the daily needs of an individual can be met without money, cash advance loans that provide money at your doorstep and without any efforts, are a huge success nowadays. Cash advance loans are also known as payday loans. These are usually small loans for a short tenure. Cash advances do not require a credit check that is intended to bridge the borrowers cash flow gap between paydays. These cash advance loans are different from what is also meant by the term cash advance i.e. a prearranged line of credit such as a credit card. The cash advance loans are quick and easy. In fact these are a hassle free mode of obtaining some urgently required cash. Cash advance loans are ideal for people who have consumed their money before the month end and therefore need cash to pay their dues and accomplish other necessary tasks. In other words they need money to run their life before they get their next salary check. Cash advance companies usually pay from $20 to $1000 in the increments of $50 or $100. These companies do not formulate a strict eligibility criterion; so cash advance loans can be easily availed by anyone. The loan approvals like the need of the customer are instant. Like other usual loans, the cash advance loan too is given in cash and is secured by the borrowers post-dated check that includes the original loan principal and accrued interest. The maturity date is often made to coincide with the borrowers next payday. On the maturity date the lender processes the check in the usual manner or through electronic withdrawal from the borrowers checking account. The borrowers who are unable to pay the loans on the decided date have to pay good amount of interest fees. So if you have slightest idea of the fact that you will not be able to make the reimbursement ob the due date, cash advance is not a prudent choice. Yet due to the spontaneous availability of money, these loans act as a boon in cases of emergency and so are largely favored by people. Prior to opting for a cash advance, it is always better to acquire some information regarding the company offering the loan. The small payday moneylenders that operate small store or franchises often offer less loan amount in comparison to big multinational financial service providers. Some mainstream banks also offer a direct deposit advance for customers whose paychecks are deposited electronically. At present payday lending is legal in Canada and in 25 other states of USA. Elsewhere in United States a payday moneylender has to be affiliated to an out-of-state chartered bank to conduct business. However misusing the cash advances can land you in serious trouble. For this will not just augment your debts but also ruin your credit ratings. Cash advances are short-term loans devised to help people in exigency situations. How to Find the Best Long Distance Rates

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mike_Yeager]Mike Yeager These days the best long distance rates are not found with your home carrier. There’s too much competition in the marketplace and many people are discovering that a prepaid card can actually save them money. A coalition of long-distance phone companies has developed a package of reforms that will be implemented as soon as the Federal Communications Commission approves them. Ultimately, these changes will increase competition in the telephone marketplace, which will cut costs even further. Although technology has allowed phone companies to trim personnel even as call volume surged, reductions in access rates have made the most difference. In looking for the best long distance rates most people realize that there aren’t massive savings when switching from long-distance provider to long-distance provider, but the prepaid market has definitely cut long distance costs. There’s never been a better time to make long-distance calls. Many carriers are offering competitive long-distance service, and rates have fallen by some 85 percent in the past 15 years. Nonetheless, it pays to shop around; the more cautious you are as a consumer, the better the choice you’ll finally make. Liberty Head Nickels - Coins For The Collector

By Brian Edwards The Liberty Head Nickel came in with a bang and left with a bigger bang. When Charles Barber designed the coin as a replacement for the Shield Nickel he placed a large Roman numeral V on the reverse of the coin to represent five cents. Because the coin was roughly the same size as the five dollar gold piece a whole group of enterprising crooks began gold plating the coin and passing them off as five dollar gold pieces. The coin was quickly redesigned and the word “cents” was added to the reverse, thus ending a very profitable business for the criminal class. Production was fairly steady for the rest of the production run. The series was officially ended in 1912 to make way for the Buffalo Nickel. However, an enterprising mint employee struck five 1913 proof coins with a master die and then slipped them out of the mint. The coins first appeared to in numismatic circles in 1920. However, it is interesting to note that the coin collecting community was not even aware of the coins until a dealer named Samual W. Brown place an ad offering to buy any proof examples in the December 1919 issue of the ANA journal “Numismatist”. Then during the ANA convention in 1920 he offered to pay $600 dollars for all examples. Since he actually owned all five specimens, this was just a way to build speculation and establish a market value for the coins. This was enough to create a stir among coin collectors but it took another enterprising coin dealer to make this one of the most famous coins in America. Coin dealer B. Max Mehl begain one million dollar advertising campaign nation wide in 1930 that offered $50 for every 1913 Liberty Nickel sent to him. This created a sensation and people around the country began searching for the elusive nickel. The nation was in the early stages of the Great Depression and fifty dollars was a great deal of money. The real intent of Mehl’s campaign was peddling his “Star Rare Coin Encyclopedia.” Mehl never did purchase a 1913 Nickel but he did manage to produce and sell 30 editions of his encyclopedia and became very rich in the process. Today, two of the coins reside in museums , one in the Smithsonian Institution, and one in the American Numismatic Association’s Money Museum The other three are in private collections. The finest known specimen sold for $1,840,000 in a 1996 auction, and later resold for $4,150,000 in 2005. The “Olsen specimen”, famous for having been featured on an episode of Hawaii Five-O, brought $3,000,000 when it was auctioned in 2003. Type Information The general type coin collector will normally obtain one example of the Liberty Nickel. For the specialized type coin collector two major varieties of the Liberty Nickels were minted, one without the word “cents” one the reverse and the other with cents added. The first variety was minted in 1883 and the with cents coin produced from 1883 until 1913. Collector Points With the exception of 1912, all Liberty Nickels were produced at the Philadelphia mint. The three are low-mintage issues were produced in 1885, 1886 and 1912-S-but there are no great rarities. The 1912-S, at 238,000, is the only coin with a mintage below a million. Proofs were struck every year and at relatively high mintages for the period. Because of a better design, the “V” nickels are well struck. Because of this collectors should avoid weakly stuck coins. There good quantities of well struck coins available. Investor Information The Liberty Nickels are well known among collectors because of the “no cents” version and the highly hyped 1913 edition. However, they are still mostly collected by type collectors. Well preserved examples are readily available and prices don’t increase dramatically until they higher end on the mint state and proof state scales. Finally, although the “no cents” variety was only minted for part of the first year of production it was saved in large quantities by the public. As a result, they are relatively common in the higher grades. This is great for collectors but not so great for investors. Visit www.uscoinfacts.com for a wealth of data about US Coins. Need Something From The Craft Store? Check Online First

By Samantha Davis I don’t know about you, but I don’t live close to town. You look any direction out of my home’s windows or doors, and you are going to see fields. This has its advantages, and its disadvantages. One disadvantage, if I am working on or planning a new craft project, I can’t just run to the craft store real quick. It is much more convenient for me to find what I need online. Convenience is not the only reason to shop online. You can find some great deals online that you may not find in a craft store. However, before you rush to your computer, there are some things that you should always keep in mind when shopping online. Check the websites of craft stores you typically shop at. Michaels, JoAnn Fabrics, and Hobby Lobby all have websites. You can also look at other reputable online stores like Amazon.com. Other websites geared directly toward selling craft supplies include Moore’s, Create for Less, and sunshinecrafts. If you haven’t checked out ebay before, now may be a good time to start. Lots of crafters who have extra supplies, fabrics, or other materials that they are not going to use will put those extras on ebay for a very reasonable price. The key is shop names that you know. If you don’t know the names of any good online stores, ask around. See where your friends or colleagues have had good luck finding quality supplies at good prices. There are other things to consider before you skip the craft store for an online store. What is their return policy? Make sure that you are able to return a product before you purchase it. Know whether or not it has to be returned within a certain amount of time, unopened, and if you are responsible for paying return postage. What payment types do they accept? You are not going to be able to pick up and examine the product as you would in a craft store, so be sure you read everything about the product. Pictures are great, but also read all the information they have listed. Check their shipping rates. It’s not a great deal if the cost of shipping is outrageous. Keep in mind that heavier and larger items are going to cost more to ship. Websites, much like physical craft stores, can give you great ideas for new projects. You can find a lot of really good ideas, and free directions. Often, these sites will give you a supply list that you can then use to order your products. The downside to ordering your supplies online? You have to wait! If you put together a good shopping list, and need to be in town anyway, you could get the things you need from the craft store today, then you can get started on your project right away! My recommendation is that you shop at both the craft store and online. You never know what deals and what products you are going to find where. It is always best to look at all your options. Besides, what is better than spending an hour in the craft store looking at all the great things you could do!
